Regions & Destinations

The world, mapped.

Overview

The ports and destinations visited on a cruise or tour can be confusing; often ports are misnamed, misleading or just inaccurate. Every operator seems to have their own way to spell places, or some will use outdated place names.

Widgety has built a Regions & Destinations database from the ground up; starting with the official list of UN Locations Codes and building out from there, every place visited on every holiday is mapped accurately to an exact latitude and longitude, with standard and alternative names listed where applicable.

Photos sell holidays, and Widgety has royalty-free destination photography of every major destination visited by both cruise and tour operators.

Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain

Key Features

It’s not just the specific places that have been mapped, it’s where they are on a wider scale as well.

The Widgety Destinations API knows that Barcelona is in Spain, which is in Europe, and on the Mediterranean Sea.

Furthermore, it knows that Santa Cruz de Tenerife is on the island of Tenerife, which is part of the Canary Islands, which is just off the coast of northwest Africa, but still part of Spain and Europe.

This all helps to make the creation of maps, quotations and helping customers to understand exactly where a trip is visiting, easy.

The Finer Details

Included within the Destinations section of the Widgety API are the UNLOCODE, name, latitude, longitude, alternative names(s), country and destination type.

Importantly, it also includes a description of the location and any royalty-free imagery that can be used alongside it.

Operator-specific destination descriptions and imagery are available where provided.
