Operator in Focus: Oceanwide Expeditions

Oceanwide Expeditions is an expedition cruise line that operates in the polar regions. Pioneers of polar travel and inventors of the Basecamp Antarctica concept, Oceanwide was one of the first operators to take passengers to the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard.

With a fleet of four small-scale vessels fully outfitted for polar conditions, Oceanwide is distinguished by a focus on maximum daily landings, wildlife sightings, and shore-based expedition travel. Their vessels provide an experience that is up close and personal, rapidly responding to every weather and wildlife opportunity as it occurs. Sea routes are short and direct, giving guests maximum shore time in some of Earth’s most remote and otherworldly environments.

What's included?

Included on all voyages:

  • All meals including snacks, coffee and tea
  • All shore excursions and activities
  • Program of lectures
  • Free use of rubber boots and showshoes
  • Taxes and port charges

Oceanwide’s signature Basecamp cruises, which are primarily offered in Antarctica, include all of the core activities that would be an additional cost on other voyages. These activities include kayaking, mountaineering, hiking/showshoeing, photo workshops and even camping (not in the Arctic, due to the risk of encountering curious polar bears!).

Why should agents sell Oceanwide Expeditions?

Agents with customers who are interested in firsthand exploration and close-contact travel are well suited to Oceanwide’s itineraries. Programs like the Antarctica Basecamp cruise offer multiple immersive experiences included in the price of booking, and the Spitsbergen circumnavigations give guests a deep dive into an iconic Arctic island.

New guest lecturers, travel concepts and special offers are routinely introduced to the seasonal programs, and several of the Arctic and Antarctic cruises combine two separate itineraries of adjacent date ranges, giving guests twice the adventure for a fraction of the cost.

Voyages often feature natural phenomena like the midnight sun, aurora borealis, or summer solstice. Others might take guests to the most remote areas such as Bear Island, Jan Mayen or St. Helena, and seldom-visited penguin rookeries on Snow Hill Island. On some Antarctica voyages, guests may be able to map rarely charted areas of Antarctica, such as Flandres Bay.

Prices vary depending on departure date, season and duration. Prices for Arctic trips start at around €4,000, while the generally longer Antarctic voyages start around €8,000 – €9,000.

Oceanwide Expeditions aim for two shore landings every day, although local conditions determine accessibility. Due to the nature of the environment and locations visited, the itineraries may slightly vary. Alternate routes are used when necessary, and guides are always on the lookout for rare and exotic wildlife.

About the Widgety integration

Oceanwide Expeditions are available on the Widgety API and Cruise Search now.

Offer/promotion titles are not available in the feed however we do have access to the discount amount, allowing us to provide an “offer” fare set when available. Otherwise, all pricing is called “Brochure Price”.

Shared Cabins

When booking a cruise with Oceanwide Expeditions, customers have the ability to book a shared cabin. There is specific documentation relating to how these pricing works in two potential cases here

Itineraries

Generated itinerary maps will unfortunately be very limited, often with only two stops: the arrival and departure points. This is because it is not permitted by IAATO or AECO to mention specific landing points in the Arctic and Antarctica.

Itineraries are for guidance only and programs may vary: flexibility is paramount for expedition cruises.
