Operator in Focus: Secret Atlas

Expedition micro cruise specialists Secret Atlas are one of the most recent operators to join Widgety. With a fleet of small ships, their expeditions take the smallest group sizes in the Arctic (only 12 guests) and Antarctic (only 48 guests).

The average expedition cruise ship in the polar regions takes over 250 guests, meaning that Secret Atlas offer a more intimate experience for travellers looking to experience Svalbard, Greenland, Antarctica and South Georgia.

The ships are modern and spacious despite carrying only 12 guests, and each expedition has two highly experienced guides on board, offering a guide to guest ratio of 1:6, which was previously unseen in the expedition cruising sector.

Specialist photo tours are offered on select sailings, which are led by a professional expedition team and photography expert, and it’s not uncommon to encounter polar bears in Svalbard (although they can’t make any promises). The photography guides offer assistance and tutorials both on board and in the field to help travellers get that perfect shot.

For 2023, Secret Atlas have announced their latest ship MV Vikingfjord which commences expeditions in Svalbard on the 1st July. MV Vikingfjord has had a huge rebuild to be a modern expedition vessel offering cruise ship comfort, while still only carrying 12 guests in 9 cabins.

Vikingfjord has been retrofitted with the cleanest technology available and offers up to a 95% reduction in NOX emissions, a new engine and is the most environmentally friendly small ship in the polar regions. For guests she offers an outstanding experience with en-suite cabins all situated above deck, a large observation lounge, on deck hot tub and sauna and first class cuisine.

For 2024, Secret Atlas are excited to announce new Expedition Micro Cruises to explore Scoresby Sund. These fly-sail expeditions will fly our guests from Iceland to a remote corner of East Greenland where they can spend time exploring one of the world’s greatest wildernesses. https://www.secretatlas.com/tour/east-greenland-cruise/

Why should agents sell Secret Atlas?

We spoke to Andy Marsh, co-founder of Secret Altas, about what makes them stand out, he said;

“Secret Atlas offers clients a first class expedition experience that is simply not possible in large groups. We have a team of veteran guides and modern ships that deliver an outstanding experience on every expedition so when you book your clients with Secret Atlas you can be assured they will be delighted by the service and experience they receive.

Secret Atlas is committed to low impact sustainable expeditions. We feel strongly that landing a group of 12 has a greatly reduced impact when exploring the polar regions than landing a group of 250.

For our clients there are no waiting times to go ashore so they get to see more, and we regularly have intimate encounters with wildlife that would be impossible in a larger group. A small ship offers a greater flexibility to explore than a larger ship.”.

Agents are offered product training, a media library full of assets to help sell the expeditions, and competitive commissions of up to 20%.

About the Widgety integration

Secret Atlas are available on the Widgety API and Cruise Search now, and the pricing is converted from Euro to GBP daily.

Itineraries

By international law, operators aren’t allowed to specify an exact landing spot in the polar regions each day in an effort to protect the environment and wildlife. Therefore sometimes the stops listed are non-specific.

The Feed

Secret Atlas do not currently have a feed so the data is provided to us via a templated set of files that is manually populated by their team, this means that we are currently unable to provide any offer prices or up to date availability.

The Widgety integration should be used as a guide, therefore lease check the official website/booking platform before making any bookings.
